Learn with a friend from Israel!
Join with the Brodsky Library and CAJE as we welcome a friend from Israel. Learn with Esther Zimand as she discusses "Why Do We Need a Jewish State Now More than Ever?" Coffee, dessert and chatting with Esther will follow the presentation. Reservations required. Admission: $7; free to Friends of the Library and 2009 Melton Alumni Association Members.

Annual Lazaroff Lecture
Rabbi Shalom Paul - "The Ever-Alive Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Significance for Understanding the Bible, Early Judaism and the Birth of Christianity"
Rabbi Shalom Paul is the featured speaker at the annual Lazaroff Lecture funded by the Morris and Ann Lazaroff Endowment for the Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library. Professor Paul is an authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls and Professor Emeritus at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Reception following the lecture. Reservations required. Celebrating Behind the Blue Gate: reading and reflections with Carol Rose
Join us at the Brodsky Library for a wonderful evening featuring a salon style learning experience with author Carol Rose. Carol will read from her recently re-released collection of poems “Behind the Blue Gate.” She will share insights and reflections related to her poetry and the creative processes that influence her writing. Brodsky Library BIG Community READ Book Discussion
Join with St. Louis area rabbis to discuss the 2010 BIG Community READ book selection, Conquering Fear: Living Boldly in an Uncertain World by Harold Kushner. The program will be a panel discussion on “Rabbinical Insights into Fear and Hope.” Panel members include Rabbi Susan Talve, Rabbi Carnie Rose, Rabbi Hyim Shafnter and Rabbi Brigitte Rosenberg with Rabbi Brad Horwitz as moderator.
The BIG Community READ is co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center's St Louis Jewish Book Festival; the Saul Brodsky Jewish Community Library; the Central Agency for Jewish Edudcation and the St Louis Rabbinical Association to promote literacy, community and education. Copies of Rabbi Kushner's book will be available to check out at the Brodsky Library. Reservations are required.

Baseball season may be over, but it is never far from the hearts of St. Louisans. Join authors Burton and Benita Boxerman at the Brodsky Library as they discuss their new book, "Jews and Baseball: Volume 2: the Post-Greenberg Years, 1949-2008.
